Alumni Update: Anthony Saunders (Slippery Rock)

Slippery Rock junior cornerback Anthony Saunders was named as a third-team Don Hansen Division II All-Super Region One performer by the Don Hansen Football Committee.

Saunders, a Valley High School graduate, led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and ranked 11th among NCAA Division II players in passes defended with 17 (14 broken up, three interceptions).

Saunders accumulated 105 yards on interception returns, highlighted by two he turned into touchdowns, a 50-yarder in the season-opening win over Seton Hill and a 42-yarder in a win over Gannon.

Billed by his coaches as The Rock's "lockdown corner," Saunders also ranked fourth on the team with 62 total tackles (42 solo, 20 assisted).

Saunders earned All-PSAC-West second-team honors in 2012 and is one of nine Slippery Rock defensive starters expected to return for the 2013 season.
