Swimming: Upper St. Clair girls get past Peters Township

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

With only four entries in every race, Upper St. Clair could not simply get past section rival Peters Township with its depth. It had to rely on fast times and strong relays and that is exactly what the Panthers got in a 55-47 win over the Indians. Maddie Yoos, Abby Matheny and Meave Lersch led the way for Upper St. Clair.

Yoos won the 100 breaststroke by nearly three seconds, winning with a time of 1:06.79. Matheny won everything she competed in, the 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Lersch took first place in the 100 freestyle, beating out Peters Township's Olivia Yocca by 0.86 seconds.

Upper St. Clair flexed its muscles in the 200 freestyle relay, taking the top two spots. The 'A' relay won with Lersch, Matheny, Yoos and Neele Minuth. The 'B' relay clocked in right behind with Olivia Shaffer, Ynyra Bohan, Claire Hsu and Mia Beyerl.
