By now you’ve seen the box scores and the 65-42 final for Thomas Jefferson (11-4, 7-0) over East Allegheny (7-9, 3-5). So let’s take a look at what led to the numbers.
East Allegheny has a great core of three-point shooters. But the Jaguars were able to hold them. The Wildcats were held to a total of five three-pointers this game, three of which happened in the first half. Jordan Williams is an East Allegheny player with the strength to shoot from very far away; Wildcats’ head coach Vernon Benson told Sports Town that some coaches would actually reel Williams in.
Williams made two three-pointers in the first half of the game, and Josh Jenkins got the other one in that half. Jenkins is also known for his clutch three-point abilities.
East Allegheny’s Shawn Adair, a gifted slash player, did make two three-pointers in the third quarter. Adair led the East Allegheny team in scoring with 13 points. Joel Randolph followed up with 10.
Likewise, the key for Thomas Jefferson was defense. The video shows how the Jaguars made the arc a frustrating place.
For Thomas Jefferson, Joe Carroll shot for 24 points, and Chase Winovich had 14. The Jaguars outscored the Wildcats 34-26 in the first half and 31-16 in the second.
