Despite winning just three games in Section 4-A, the Springdale baseball team was still able to lock up a WPIAL playoff spot for the second straight year.

The Dynamos (5-7, 3-5), who lost to Western Beaver last year in the first round after posting an 11-3 record in section play, finished behind Riverview and North Catholic this season in the five-team section.

Springdale secured its postseason berth with a crucial 11-8 extra-inning win over Leechburg on May 2. Senior catcher/pitcher John Kern led the Dynamos with a pair of doubles and senior outfielder Austin Tocco knocked in two runs against the Blue Devils. Kern also pitched five innings and struck out eight batters.

Sophomore outfielder Adam Lock helped Springdale pick up a big 14-7 section win May 2 against St. Joseph. Lock went 5 for 5 with three home runs and seven RBIs against St. Joseph.

The Dynamos finished their section schedule with a 14-1 loss against No. 3 Riverview and were slated to complete their regular season slate against non-section Cornell on May 8.
