For the third consecutive season, the South Park girls’ basketball team can call themselves section champions.

South Park (17-2, 11-0), ranked No. 4 in Class AAA, clinched the outright Section 5 title by winning at Moon, 57-41, last Monday.

South Park was the Section 4 champion the previous two seasons. The Eagles have won 27 straight section games. Their last section loss came at West Mifflin on Jan. 18, 2010.

The Eagles, coached by Reggie Wells, have won their past 10 section games by double digits. Their two losses were to No. 3 Hopewell and nationally-ranked Pflugerville, Texas.

South Park is hoping to make it to the WPIAL championship game for the second year in a row. A season ago, the Eagles lost to Hopewell in the final, 50-34. The Eagles finished 24-4.

The Eagles are led by senior guard Shelby Lindsay and junior forward Halie Torris.
