The top reported times in the state features a solid dose of swimmers from the South Fayette girls’ team.
The list includes the top reported times from all high school swimmers and divers in Pennsylvania, regardless of classification. South Fayette certainly has one of the best showings on the list of any WPIAL Class AA team.
Sophomore Madeline Bartrug and senior Morgan Fink headline the list of Lions.
Bartrug has the 28th fastest reported time in the 50 freestyle (25.03) and the 20th fastest reported time in the 100 freestyle (53.74).
Bartrug is the sprint freestyler on the team, Fink is the distance freestyler. Fink has the 22nd fastest reported time in the 200 freestyle (1:56.45) and Bartrug also makes that list with the 30th fastest reported time in the same event with a 1:57.15.
Senior Mary Rosati, another senior and another distance freestyler, also checks in on the list. She has the 33rd fastest reported time in the 500 freestyle (5:16.05).
The top performance in comparison with state peers belongs to Fink who swam a 59.28 in the 100 backstroke against Bishop Canevin on Jan. 10, that time ranks 12th in the state. Fink also ranks 27th in the 100 breaststroke with at time of 1:09.09, a testament to the senior’s versatility.
Bartrug also notched a top 50 time in the 100 butterfly when she swam a 1:00.39 against Canon-McMillan on Jan. 8.
It’s not just the South Fayette swimmers either, senior Grace Klimek, the defending WPIAL Class AA diving champion, scored a 218.50 in a meet on Jan. 17 against Obama Academy. Klimek’s score is the 21st best in Pennsylvania.
