South Fayette boys' basketball team surges into section lead

Written by Brad Everett on .

With most of the talk being centered on Chartiers Valley and Montour, one Class AAA Section 5 has silently ascended into the section lead.

South Fayette, one of the WPIAL’s most successful programs in recent years, is in the midst of another strong season. The Lions are 7-2 overall, 3-0 in the section. They are tied with Chartiers Valley in first place, one game ahead of Montour.

Coach Rich Bonnaure’s squad defeated Waynesburg, 77-40, last Friday. Bonnaure’s son, Evan Bonnaure, paced the Lions with 26 points. C.J. Rudisill added 13, Justin Watson 12 and Lucas Russell 10.

All of South Fayette’s wins have come by at least eight points and its only losses were to West Mifflin and Class AAAA No. 1 New Castle.

The Lions travel to McGuffey tonight and then host Montour Friday.
