Softball: Shaler rebounds from 0-2 section start

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

Getting behind the eight ball could be a recipe for disaster in Class 6A Section 3. The rough and tumble section that features powerhouses from the northern suburbs is not conducive for a late-season rally to get back into playoff position. Shaler is well aware of this but still could not avoid an 0-2 start after a pair of back-to-back defeats over the span of three days to North Allegheny and Seneca Valley. The Titans lost both games by a combined three runs and the Raiders and Tigers are now both tied at 4-1 for the lead in the section.

Shaler has since fought back and can join in the discussion in the playoff and even section title race. The Titans reeled off three consecutive section wins to improve their overall record to 4-2 and move into third place in the section with a 3-2 record. Shaler won 5-3 at their home field, Hilltop Field in Shaler, over North Hills. The very next day back at Hilltop Shaler won 10-4 over Butler and went on the road last Thursday and won 8-0 at Pine-Richland to all but erase the memory of the 0-2 start.

The Titans will look to keep the momentum going when they visit section-leading North Allegheny on Thursday.
