Written by Brad Everett on .

Name: Ben Visnesky
School: Serra Catholic
Grade: 11
Sport: Baseball
Position: Pitcher/First baseman

Background: Visnesky has been a mainstay in the Serra Catholic lineup since his freshman season. He's had a lot of success and has played in some big games - he was Serra's starting pitcher in last year's WPIAL Class 1A championship game. Visnesky has been outstanding again this season. He's 4-0 on the mound with a 1.31 ERA and has 30 strikeouts compared to just one walk. At the plate, Visnesky is hitting .542 with 17 runs scored and 13 RBIs. Serra, the WPIAL 1A champion a year ago, is 11-0 overall and 7-0 in 2A Section 1. The Eagles are ranked No. 1 in 2A.

Coach Brian Dzurenda said: "Our junior class is a very good class. There are five outstanding pitchers. Ben pitched in the WPIAL championship as a sophomore. He started and, of course, we won the championship. He's been a leader for us. He's been a standout on the mound and at first base. He's hitting the ball well. And he's going to get better. He's a big kid. He's about 6-3 and weighs about 220 pounds. He's very powerful."
