Girls Basketball: Serra Catholic faces tough second-round challenge

Written by Joe Koch on .

One of the top girls basketball programs in Pennsylvania stands in the way of Serra Catholic's journey in the PIAA Class A girls basketball tournament.

Bishop Guilfoyle has once again had a solid season. The District 6 champion Marauders improved to 21-5 with a 49-40 victory over Venango Catholic, the No. 4 team from District 9. While that game was taking place, WPIAL runner-up Serra improved to 24-3 with a 60-52 victory over Cochranton, the District 10 runner-up. Megan Sieg had a solid game for the Eagles with 18 points in the victory over Cochranton. Danielle Dindak added 13, while Nicole Pero contributed 11 points.

The Eagles and the Marauders meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richland High School, which is in the Johnstown area. The winner of that game meets the winner of the Quigley Catholic-Clarion Area game in Saturday's quarterfinals.
