Big first half boosts Riverside girls' basketball team

Riverside began its WPIAL tournament run with a convincing 54-35 preliminary-round victory over Springdale on Friday night at Keystone Oaks High School.

Alex Deep led the Panthers with 29 points. Riverside, the third qualifier from Section 2-AA, put the game out of reach by outscoring the Dynamos 30-10 in the first half.

The win lifted Riverside's record to 15-8.

The Panthers meet Section 5-AA champion McGuffey in the first round at 6:30 p.m.Tuesday at Keystone Oaks High School. Perfect in section play with a 12-0 record, the Highlanders enter the game with a 19-2 overall record.
