Boys' Basketball: West Feature Athlete - Riverside's Gig Jewell

Written by Sports Town on .

Name: Gig Jewell
High School: Riverside
Grade: 12
Sport: Basketball

Background info: Gig Jewell passed on his senior season of football to get healthy for the first time in a long time and work on his basketball game. At 6-foot-5, Jewell draws attention no matter what sport he plays and that has been true this basketball season as well. He is averaging about a double-double in points and rebounds and exemplified that this past week with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 50-43 win over Mohawk.

Quotes from Coach John Rorick: “Gig has been a four year starter for us and we’ll definitely be missed when he’s gone. He worked hard in the off-season and got in great shape, he’s basically been a gym rat. He’s extended his range and can shoot the jumper from the top of the lane. He’s worked hard on free throws too and does that well too. He’s a big kid but he moves really well and that has surprised a lot of coaches that have been looking at him. He’s very skilled, has good hands, a soft touch, and he’s been a leader. He hasn’t decided what he’s playing or where next year but he’ll do well.”
