Age doesn't matter for new Ringgold AD

Megan Ryan profiles new Ringgold athletic director Laura Grimm.

"Laura Grimm's first official job as Ringgold's athletic director was to fire herself.

"It went well," she said of resigning as girls basketball coach. "I gave a good exit interview."

Her second official job was to hire her replacement. That part was tougher.

"I was maybe more critical than I would be in other interviews only because I was so intimately familiar with the program," she said, adding the team had become like her family. "I wanted to make sure that they were in good hands."

She gave her recommendation for the job to the school board this week, ticking off another task on the never-ending to-do list in her whirlwind start as athletic director that began July 1. After two years coaching at Class AAA Ringgold, having applied for the athletic director position in 2014 as well, the 27-year-old is a few weeks into the fall sports season as Ringgold's first female athletic director."
