Girls Soccer: Quaker Valley knocks off defending state champions

Moon may still be the reigning PIAA Class AA champion, but Quaker Valley appears to be the new favorite in Class AA Section 5. The No. 4-ranked Quakers knocked off the No. 5-ranked Tigers 2-1 on Wednesday in a battle of unbeaten teams in the section. Moon only lost two games all of last season and it swept the season series against Quaker Valley, outscoring the Quakers 10-1.

Quaker Valley was led by senior forward Greer Monahan who netted both goals. Monahan is one of the top returning goal scorers in the WPIAL. She scored just minutes the game. Moon responded like a defending state champion is apt to do and equalized in the first half on a penalty kick but Monahan came through with the game winner midway through the second half.

Quaker Valley (9-0, 5-0) now sits atop the section ahead of Moon (7-1, 4-1) and Montour (5-2-1, 4-1-1).
