Girls Basketball: Streaking Plum gaining some momentum

Written by Stephen Catanese on .

After a slow start to the season, Plum seems to have hit full stride now.

After dropping a pair of games in its season-opening tournament, Plum has won seven-straight, including a pair of victories in a holiday tournament last weekend in Westland, Ohio.

The Mustangs (7-2, 3-0) knocked off host Westland in their opening game 66-58 before defeating Deleware Christian (Ohio) in the final 72-50.

It's been over a decade since Plum last won seven games in a row.

Krista Pietropola broke the 20-point barriers in both games, including posting a triple-double in the second contest, while Courtney Zezza scored 28 in the final.

The Mustangs will have a week off before hitting the meet of their Section 2-AAAA schedule, facing Penn Hills on Jan. 7 and Fox Chapel on Jan. 10, both still undefeated in section play, with a trip to a strong Pine Richland team sandwiched in the middle.
