Girls Tennis: Rams’ Bridgham looking to go out on top

Pine-Richland’s Marlys Bridgham has had a very successful four years at Pine-Richland.

But the Rams’ senior will be making her first appearance at the PIAA Class AAA singles tournament this weekend in Hershey.

Bridgham finished second in the WPIAL Class AAA tournament, losing to two-time district champion Callie Frey of Mt. Lebanon in three sets. Bridgham did beat Frey a few weeks later in the WPIAL Class AAA team tournament.

Alumni Update – Drew Klingenberg (Penn State)

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sophomore midfielder Drew Klingenberg, a Pine-Richland graduate, was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Klingenberg was vital to Penn State's 2-1Klingenberg PSU victory over No. 14 Michigan State on Sunday.

Klingenberg was a menace for the Spartan defense as he finished a spectacular goal in the 51st minute to knot the score at one and helped on the game-winner in double-overtime for his first three-point day. The goal was his first collegiate tally as well. On the assist, Klingenberg passed back to Mike Robinson (Lansdale, Pa.) whose lofted long ball found Jordan Tyler (Rochester, Mich.) for Penn State's fourth-straight Big Ten win.

Girls Cross Country: Romeo leads Rams

On the same course the WPIAL meet will be run this week, senior Gabrielle Romeo ran a 20:49 to finish 19th in the Tri-State Coaches Association cross country championship Thursday.

Romeo’s finish helped Pine-Richland place eighth overall at Tri-State, which takes place at Cooper’s Lake.

Behind Romeo was Margo Dolgos (49th), Paige Suvick (61st) and Katie Kirsch (95th).
