Hockey: Peters Township has two teams excelling

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

Losing only four starters from last season’s Class AAA Penguins Cup runner-up, Peters Township is, not surprisingly, off to a strong start at 5-1 this season after its 2-1 victory against Butler Monday night.

It’s a bit more surprising that Peters Township’s second varsity squad, which plays in the Open Class, is also 4-1 through five games.

Like Canon-McMillan last season, the Indians’ program is taking advantage of its strength in numbers by having two varsity squads. Canon-McMillan’s Open Class team finished 6-11-3 last season.

The Indians’ Open Class team has outscored its opponents, 28-10, so far this season. Kelson Pizzuti, Tristan Wagner and Jake Raymore each have seven points through five games to lead the team.

In net, Caden Shell is 3-1 with one shutout and a 2.27 goals-against average.
