Wilcox making most of final year with Peters Township girls' lacrosse team

Two years ago, Ben Wilcox and Hannah Wilcox moved to Pennsylvania along with their parents so their father could accept a new job.

Ben was able to play one season with the Peters Township High boys lacrosse team as its goalie. Younger sister Hannah has had a stellar career on both the field hockey and girls lacrosse teams at Peters Township.

Wilcox, who signed last fall with Division I school Jacksonville University, scored six goals in her team's 15-7 season-opening victory over Chartiers Valley this past Wednesday. Starting her final year with the Indians, Wilcox said she's had a blast.

"It's been great," she said. "These girls have been amazing. It's a different team than the one we had last year, but these girls have been great. We're a big family."

Wilcox maneuvers quite efficiently through and opposing team's defense. She passes the ball off to a teammate, and then she's able to cut toward the net and has a better-than-even chance of scoring.

"We're a very assist-oriented team," she said. "We like to play a team. We don't do a lot of one-on-ones. Sometimes, they're there. But we do like to assist a lot. But there are some kinks we need to work out, but it's still the beginning of the season. We have a long way to go."
