All season long, Penn-Trafford, Woodland Hills and Oakland Catholic have competed in the WPIAL's Class 3A grouping in field hockey. But now that the season is entering its final week of the regular season, these three teams will move past the teams they have played during the regular season and begin a two-game tournament that will determine the WPIAL's entry into the PIAA 2A tournament.
On paper, it appears that Penn-Trafford would be a shoo-in for a berth in the statewide tournament. Coach Cindy Dutt isn't interested in scenarios or conjecture. And both Oakland Catholic's Paige Klouser and Woodland Hills' Jim Haberfield likely feel the same way.
Penn-Trafford likely will be the top seed in the the tournament. And, according to Dutt, the school will make itself available to host the WPIAL 2A final on Oct. 26. The Warriors could secure third place in 3A, Section 1 if they can defeat Norwin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Warriors' regular-season finale.
It won't be easy as the Knights stunned the Warriors 3-0 in the first meeting on Sept. 27. Even if the Warriors are swept by the Knights, they likely would finish any lower than fourth place.
