Written by Brad Everett on .

Obama Academy's Raven Haston participated in the PIAA Class 3A championships as a freshman and faired very well.

A year later, Haston hopes to do even better while taking on an even bigger workload.

Haston will compete in two events at the championships, which begin Friday at Shippensburg University. Haston was a double winner at the City League championships in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and qualified for the state meet in both races. Last year, Haston placed eighth in the 100.

Haston is not seeded highly in either event. She's seeded 27th out of 29 runners in the 100 and 20th out of 29 runners in the 200. At the City League championships, she ran winning times of 12.82 in the 100 and 25.73 in the 200.

Conestoga's Grace Lanouette is the No. 1 seed in the 100 (11.94) and Cheltenham's Chanel Brissett is the No. 1 seed in the 200 (24.29). Avonworth/Northgate's Hunter Robinson is the highest-seeded WPIAL runner in both events. Robinson is the No. 2 seed in the 100 and No. 3 seed in the 200. She is also the No. 1 seed in the 400.
