Boys Basketball: Another all-star game for Obama's Porter

Written by Brad Everett on .

D.J. Porter's next stop on the all-star circuit is Chartiers Valley High School.

Porter, a senior at Obama Academy, will participate in the 19th annual Hoops for a Cure all-star game Saturday.

Porter will play for the Class AAAA all-stars, who take on the Class AAA all-stars in a game that is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. Many of the WPIAL's top seniors -- boys and girls -- will be participating in the day-long event that includes four games.

Playing on Porter's team will be Bethel Park's Josh Krafczynski, Franklin Regional's Matt Renzi, Hampton's Ryan and Collin Luther, New Castle's Malik Hooker, Anthony Richards and Drew Allen, Central Catholic's Pat Sproule and Upper St. Clair's J.J. Conn.

The team will be coached by New Castle's Ralph Blundo and Dave Richards, and Upper St. Clair's Danny Holzer.

This will be the second all-star event for Porter, who played in the Roundball Classic at Geneva College two weeks ago. Porter scored 18 points in that game.

Porter had an exceptional senior season which saw him be named City League Player of the Year and Class AAAA third-team all-state. A guard-forward, Porter averaged 22.4 points per game.
