Youhon, Merz help Norwin hockey team rebound

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

Entering last Thursday’s game against winless McDowell, Norwin not only had lost three games in a row. It had also lost its section lead to State College.

For a while, it looked as if Norwin might be McDowell’s first victim of the season. With a few minutes remaining in the second period, the teams were tied at 3.

But then Dante Youhon scored the first of four straight Norwin goals and the Knights won 7-5.

Youhon had two goals in the contest, while Class AAA second-leading goal-scorer Dan Merz had a hat trick.

The win clinched a playoff spot for the Knights and moved them within two points of State College.

Norwin will have a chance to tie tonight when the two teams meet at Penn State Ice Pavilion. It will also match up Merz with the leading scorer in the class, State College’s Stefan Horgas.
