Gymnastics: North Allegheny triumphs in season opening tri-meet

After an uncharacteristic last-place finish at the WPIAL gymnastics championships last year, North Allegheny wasted no time this year staking their claim as a vastly improved team. The Lady Tigers triumphed over Pine-Richland and Fox Chapel in a tri-meet to open the WPIAL season for the three programs. North Allegheny totaled 142.45 points to outpace the Rams (132.55) and the Foxes (130.1) North Allegheny won every event, the vault (36.35), bars (36.1), beam (35.2) and floor exercise (34.9).

The young North Allegheny team features four freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and no seniors. Junior Danijela Jergan won the all-around competition with a 36.95 that she totaled with her performances on the vault (9.7), bars (9.5), beam (8.65) and floor (9.1). Sophomore Leah Elmore was especially strong on the floor with a meet-high 9.4 and on the balance beam where she scored a team-high 8.85.

Sophomore Kylie Radick had the third highest score with a 33.4 and freshman Taylor Bertini scored 34.05 making her varsity debut.
