Written by Brad Everett on .

Name: Anthony Milliner
School: New Brighton
Grade: 12
Sport: Track & Field
Events: 200, triple jump, long jump, high jump

Background: Milliner is the defending WPIAL and PIAA Class 2A champion in the triple jump. He fared well at last Saturday's Warrior Classic at Central Valley, winning titles in both the triple jump and 200-meter dash. He also finished third in the high jump and fourth in the long jump. Milliner is one of six current WPIAL athletes who won PIAA titles a season ago. As a junior, Milliner became the first boy to claim WPIAL and PIAA triple jump titles since 2000. He was at his best at the PIAA championships, jumping a school-record 48 feet, 5 ½ inches. Milliner became the third New Brighton athlete to win a PIAA gold medal, joining Mike Phillips (3,200, 1995) and Josh McFrazier (110 hurdles, 2010). He has committed to Kent State.

Coach Erin Fritz said: "For him, it's a thing of competing against himself. I know this was how it was with [Beaver's] Dom Perretta last year. You go into every meet knowing you're going to win, so you need to compete against yourself to improve. ... He looks good this year. He's stronger and healthier than I've seen him in previous years. Even last year or the previous year, he would have to get in better shape or put himself together. This year he's very strong and healthy. It's going to come."
