Playoffs on line for Moon girls' basketball team this week
With two section games remaining for the Moon Area High girls basketball team, this week's games couldn't be more important.
The Tigers are in a three-way tie for fourth place in Section 5-AAA with Keystone Oaks and Trinity. Each team has a section record of 4-6.
And a big part in erasing that logjam takes place at 7:30 p.m. today when the Tigers host Keystone Oaks. In the first meeting between the two schools on Jan. 10, Moon eked out a 49-44 victory. Following tonight's game, the Tigers then travel across the Sewickley Bridge to close out the regular season on Thursday night against Quaker Valley. The Quakers already are assured of a playoff berth as they are in second place with a section record of 7-4, but could finish third if they lose to Moon and South Fayette (6-4 in section play) sweeps Montour and Trinity in its final two section games.
Quaker Valley can't take anything for granted against Moon as the Tigers gave the Quakers a good game before falling 57-52 in the first meeting.
Moon, however, must start to play well right now. Following a 57-22 victory over Montour, the Tigers have lost successive games to to Trinity (57-54), section leader South Park (57-41) and South Fayette (55-44).
