Written by Keith Barnes on .

Name: Isabela Paixao
School: Montour
Grade: 11

Background: Paixao was homeschooled last year after spending her freshman year at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and transferred to Montour before the start of the season. She immediately took over as the team's No. 1 singles player. Paixao is one of the early favorites to win the Class 3A Section 4 singles championship. Paixao is rated as the No. 7 junior in the state and No. 2 in the WPIAL by tennisrecruiting.net. Girls Soccer: Montour off and running this season

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

The sample size is small, but so far Montour has posted some of the most impressive performances of the first week of the WPIAL soccer season. The Spartans won their first three games of the season and are in the process of building a solid resume already. Montour won, 3-1, at Bethel Park, a Class 4A school. One day later they hosted another 4A school, Seneca Valley. Montour shut out Seneca Valley, 1-0. Last season that same Seneca Valley program won a section title and reached the WPIAL semifinals. The Spartans stayed hot for their Section 4-AAA opener. They blasted Central Valley, 5-1, on the road in a game that will get the attention of everyone around the section. For anyone keeping score at home, Montour is now 2-0 against WPIAL semifinalists from last season and has outscored the opposition, 9-2.

THE SCOOP
First, the name. It is pronounced Cha-LEE-wa. He moved from Buffalo in third grade, and you could call Cholewa a late bloomer. Nicknamed "Chile," he was not a starter at the beginning of last season, but eventually worked his way into a starting role and became a defensive player recruited by major colleges. He has added about 40 pounds since last season and will be a two-way starter this season.

Football: Montour senior chooses a college

Written by Brad Everett on .

At 6-foot-7, 265 pounds, Mason Cholewa is very big teenager.

On Wednesday, the Montour senior defensive lineman made a very big decision.

Cholewa announced on Twitter that he has made a verbal committment to Central Florida. He has scholarship offers from more than a dozen other schools, but ultimately chose Central Florida over his other two favorites, Toledo and Temple.

First And Foremost I Would Like To Thank My Parents, My Coaches, And My Teammates For Helping Me Go Through This Process, I Couldn't Have Done It Without You Guys. Also I Would Like To Thank All The Coaches That Offered Me a Scholarship To Play Football. With this Being Said...

I'm Blessed And Proud To Say That I Will Be committing To Play Football At The University OF Central Florida #UCFast #ChargeOn -- @masoncholewa
