It likely won't afffect postseason seeding, but when Mars' boys lacrosse team visits Pine-Richland in a non-section game next Thursday, the match-up could well give both teams an idea of what to expect when the Class 3A and Class 2A playoffs begin next month.
Following a 20-1 victory over Trinity this past week, the Planets earned successive victories over Butler County rivals Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, 23-7, and Seneca Valley, 10-2, to advance their overall record to 9-0. The Planets are 4-0 in Class 2A, Section 2. The Planets have won all but two of their games by double-digit margins. Their closest call was a 13-10 victory over a very solid Peters Township Indians' squad on April 6.
Pine-Richland, conversely, was 5-2 following successive victories over State College, 11-5, and Butler, 15-7. The visit Hill Academy today and Sewickley Academy on Tuesday.
The Rams likely will face a big challenge from the Planets, and they will have another challenge of their own two days later when they host Mt. Lebanon, which just suffered its first loss with an 8-7 setback to non-WPIAL member Kiski Prep on April 7.
