Playing as the home team in the gym at the old Midland High School, expectations run high for Lincoln Park Charter School. So far, the Leopards (also the mascot for Midland) have met those expectations.
They again finished undefeated in section play and finished 17-5 overall. Lincoln Park lost to just one Class A opponent – at Quigley on December 21 – and the rest of the losses came to much bigger schools.
Only one of those losses, however, has come since 6-foot-8 Elijah Minnie became eligible. He gave Lincoln Park, size, depth, and scoring and made the Leopards the likely favorite to defend their WPIAL Class A title. Minnie averages just a fraction under 20 points per game but isn’t the leading scorer on his team.
Freshman Maverick Rowan leads Lincoln Park in scoring at 23 points per game.
Since the first of the year, Lincoln Park has only lost to Class AAAA Seneca Valley, 66-64. Since that game, the Leopards have won five straight against Class A opposition, winning by an average of 35 points.
