Boys Cross Country: East Feature Athlete – Kiski Area’s Patrick Miller

Background: Miller finished his high school cross country season on Saturday at the PIAA Championships in Hershey with a finish of 17:27. Miller’s 103rd place finish did not reflect his outstanding efforts in the touch Class AAA. Miller was one of two Cavaliers competing in the state meet. Miller qualified for the state meet after finishing 18th at the Class AAA WPIAL Championships with a time of 16:49. Miller’s best effort came at the Westmoreland County Coaches Association where he took first place with a time of 16:52.40. Miller has narrowed his college choices next year down to Lock Haven and Saint Francis. He plans to run both track and cross country wherever he chooses.

Kiski coach Tom Berzonsky: “I think he ran a good race. He probably left his best effort of the course. He is a three time state qualifier which is a great accomplishment.”

Cross Country: Smeltzer, Aller lead Cavaliers

Behind strong running performances by junior Lauren Smeltzer, sophomore Megan Aller and senior Morgan Kiebler, Kiski's girls cross country team finished tied for fifth with North Allegheny with 235 points on Thursday at the Tri State Invitational.

Smeltzer finished in the top 10, grabbing 10th place with a time of 20:26. Aller was right behind her in 12th place with a time of 20:31. Kiebler came in 26th place with a time of 21:03.

The boys finished towards the top, coming in 16th place with 567 out of 70 teams. The Cavaliers had two runners finish with sub 18:00 times with senior Patrick Miller and freshman Eric Kennedy. Miller finished in 16th place with a time of 17:11 and Kennedy crossed the line in 22nd with a time of 17:17
