Seeing Bailey Parshall twice a year, playing against Harry Rutherford-coached teams twice a year and also playing West Mifflin, South Fayette and defending PIAA champion Yough twice is not for the faint of heart. But yet that is exactly the situation facing Keystone Oaks this season in Class 4A Section 2. The Golden Eagles have been battling though and are alive and well in the hunt for an elusive playoff spot in the section.
Keystone Oaks is 2-3 overall and 2-2 in section play with wins over West Mifflin and South Fayette. In an almost must-win situation, Keystone Oaks was able to knock off South Fayette (5-4, 2-3), 11-7, last week. Bri Butler was huge for the Golden Eagles. She was 4 for 4 at the dish, driving in six of her team's 11 runs. She had two doubles in the game.
Of course, things are not going to get much easier for the team. On Tuesday, they host Belle Vernon and all-state pitcher Parshall and the Golden Eagles still have yet to play Yough. Because of early-season postponements, Keystone Oaks will play Yough on back-to-back days, April 19 and 20.
Yough (7-1, 5-0), Belle Vernon (8-1, 4-1) and Elizabeth Forward (4-5, 4-2) are ahead of Keystone Oaks (2-3, 2-2) in the section standings and South Fayette (5-4, 2-3) is right behind.
