Woodland Hills football team's surprising run ends
Woodland Hills entered the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs as just the No. 7 seed, but the Wolverines ended up just one win away from winning the championship.
The Wolverines saw their title hopes dashed by top-seed North Allegheny, 21-14, in the championship game at Heinz Field last Friday. It was North Allegheny’s third title in a row.
The defeat ended what was a great playoff ride for Woodland Hills (10-3), which upset No. 2 Gateway (17-14) in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Upper St. Clair (42-20) in the semifinals. In the first round, the Wolverines defeated North Hills (27-7).
Woodland Hills, which placed third in the Southeastern Conference, was led by senior quarterback Cody McClelland, freshman running back Miles Sanders and senior wide receiver Tom Greene.
