Westinghouse girls chasing the lead in the City basketball standings

Written by Cara DeCarlo on .

Yesterday, the Bulldogs were a team ready to snap a two-game slide. Today, they are a team ready to continue winning.

In Wednesday’s game versus Brashear, Westinghouse came out with a 62-45 victory. But the Westinghouse team had lost to Beaver Falls on Saturday (January 14) and to Allderdice the previous Friday (January 13). In the game with Beaver Falls, Cassandra Flowers shot the Westinghouse team-high nine points. Against Allderdice, Roishay Woods shot for 15 and Cassandra Flowers shot for 12.

These results are significant, because at 6-1 in-League (7-3 overall) the Bulldogs could move to first place. Allderdice (10-3, 7-0) is currently in the top spot. Allderdice beat Westinghouse 44-37 when the two teams played on January 13th, and the two teams do not play each other again until February 9th. In the meantime, it will be interesting to watch all City teams looking to challenge the Dragons. It will be equally interesting to watch Allderdice play to hold its basketball ground.

Westinghouse plays next on Friday versus Carrick, and on Monday the Bulldogs take on the Rochester Rams (7-7, 4-2) Rochester is in second place in WPIAL Section 1-A.
