Western Beaver wins latest baseball battle with Rochester
Rochester junior Todd Weischeidel had a big week with the bat last week, homering in two games and having a three-hit game in the other and the Rams had powered their way back into the playoff hunt.
Western Beaver, on the other hand, had been using pitching to make it a battle for the final spot as the Golden Beavers allowed just nine runs in three games, highlighted by a four-hit shutout by Jeff Carmody.
When the teams met Monday, it was good pitching that beat good hitting as the Golden Beavers prevailed 4-1 and set up a great stretch run for the two local rivals. Both have six wins in Section 3-A, but Rochester has lost four and Western Beaver just two, giving the Golden Beavers an apparent advantage.
Union has also won six games against two losses and has to play both teams as the three teams battle for the two positions behind Neshannock, winners of 12 straight and having already clinched. Rochester’s other game is against Quigley (2-6) while Western Beaver has games remaining with Quigley, Neshannock, and Aliquippa (0-10).
