Western Beaver baseball teams bows out

Written by Sports Town on .

Underrated throughout the WPIAL season, Western Beaver mowed through the WPIAL playoffs relatively easily and received the gold medals at Consol Energy Field. However, that was the last win for the young team.

Starting just two seniors, the Golden Beavers were blanked on five hits in the PIAA playoff opener, losing to Johnsonburg 5-0. One of those two seniors – Robert DiMaggio did have a triple and a single in the season finale.

Craig Meyer recapped the game, Western Beaver vs. OLSH:

"When Western Beaver left Consol Energy Park in Washington March 27, it did so with a shutout loss to South Side Beaver, the first in a pair of setbacks that amounted to a 0-2 start.

Barely two months later, it left the same field as a champion.

After trailing for much of the game, the Golden Beavers got two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 3-2, in the WPIAL Class A championship Wednesday."
