Central Valley baseball team's double-digit scoring streak ends

Written by John D'Abruzzo on .

In the early going, Central Valley had been pounding the ball until section play started, that is. In the first five games, the Warriors had averaged 13 runs per game. Central Valley was 4-1 entering section play, having lost one of those high-scoring games 14-13 to New Brighton.

Last week, Central Valley won its three games by a combined score of 40-6 to close out its exhibition season. The Warriors have had a balanced attack as no one player has taken center stage.

Class AAA Section 2 softball picture moving into focus

Written by Nick Tolomeo on .

One of the toughest sections in the WPIAL to get a read on is Class AAA Section 2.

After WPIAL realignment the section changed drastically with Chartiers Valley moving out and Carrick moving in among other changes. After graduation osses, WPIAL champion Montour appeared to be in rebuilding mode. And after three weeks of on again off again weather, the section standings are difficult to read with some teams like Trinity only having played one game and a team like Montour having played seven games.

Ambridge softball team living up to hype

Written by Nick Tolomeo on .

The preseason talk was that Ambridge was going to be a team to be reckoned with in the WPIAL this season. The regular season play has reinforced that opinion.

With eight starters back this year Ambridge looks like a well oiled machine early on. It has already has had five games postponed and that was probably good news for the opponents.

Sports Town was there yesterday, and video highlights are now up (click here to see them). But here, in the meantime, are the still photos. If you think it looks snowy in the photos, wait until you see the video...
