West Mifflin boys’ track team had closest win in the semifinals, over Baldwin
In an NCAA tournament basketball game, a one-point win will still send the losing team home. Last week’s track team semifinals had a similar result.
The West Mifflin boys’ team beat Uniontown 92.5-57.5. Getting closer, West Mifflin beat New Castle 85.33-62.67. But West Mifflin’s win over Baldwin was 78-72. The six point difference amounts to only one first place (or one relay) and one third. That’s how close Baldwin was to being the team in the finals tomorrow.
West Mifflin’s Jimmy Wheeler placed third in the 200-meter race at last Friday’s Baldwin invitational. Wheeler’s time was 22.76 seconds. Furthermore, the West Mifflin 4x100 ‘A’ relay team placed fifth with a time of 43.90 seconds. Furthermore, West Mifflin’s Cy Murphy won the long jump, leaping 22-07.00. In the triple jump, West Mifflin’s Derrick Fulmore placed third (43-08.00).
