Sophomore sensations shine for West Allegheny football team
West Allegheny was impressive in its 34-8 win over West Mifflin the WPIAL Class AAA championship game, but the game could also go be looked back upon as one of the turning points of a bright future as well. These Indians are young, really young.
The first four touchdowns were scored by sophomores – two each by Chayse Dillon and Armand Dellovade. Starting quarterback Andrew Koester is also a sophomore and junior Tory Delmonico was West Allegheny’s leading rusher before suffering a knee injury – if the season lasts long enough, he could return.
On defense, the leading tackler was Sean Orsini with eight tackles and he, too, is a sophomore. The second-leading tackler was Dellovade.
These young players have definitely had the advantage of a veteran senior-oriented line up front, but there is no substitute for the experience this sophomore class has gained.
