West Allegheny hockey team still searching for first win

Written by Ryan Riordan on .

Through four games last season, West Allegheny was 2-2, but then went on to win 15 games in a row and 19 of the next 20 games en route to a PIHL Class AA Penguins Cup champion.

The Indians will be looking for a similar run this season, as they have earned just one point through the first four games of the 2012-2013 season.

Part of the problem for the Indians is inexperience after losing 12 players from last season’s team.  The two leading scorers so far for West Allegheny, Jess Ligas and Sean Weber, are freshmen.

The other issue is the difficulty of the team’s early-season schedule. West Allegheny’s first four opponents — Moon, Bishop Canevin, Erie Cathedral Prep and North Hills — have a combined record of 10-2-2.

West Allegheny’s lone point came in a 4-4 tie against Bishop Canevin on Nov. 8.
