Alumni Update - Rick Devereaux (Washington Wild Things)

Written by John Perrotto on .

DevereauxRickWashingtonPositional flexibility helped Rick Devereaux land a spot in professional baseball.

Devereaux was a standout first baseman in college, first at Duquesne then at Pitt as he transferred after the Dukes dropped their baseball program in 2010. However, the West Allegheny High School graduate also logged some playing time at catcher and that drew the attention of the Washington Wild Things in the independent Frontier League.

The Wild Things signed Devereaux last month after he was bypassed in Major League Baseball's first-year player draft. Devereaux has played exclusively behind the plate as a pro.

Devereaux is hitting .247 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 26 games. At Pitt this spring, he batted a team-high .372 with seven homers and 54 RBIs in 56 games and was named first-team All-Big East.
