West Allegheny's Lauren Costa has been described as a "surprise" by her coach, Jim Hamilton. Despite being young and new to the West Allegheny varsity track team, Costa has been a consistent placewinner in sprints all season. Now, Costa is a top-eight place-winner at the state level. She placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.33 seconds in last weeken'd PIAA championships.
