West Allegheny girls swim team dominates WA Invitational

Written by Nicholas Tolomeo on .

The annual West Allegheny Christmas Swimming and Diving Invitational looks like a mini preview of the WPIAL Class AA championships each year.

Coach Bob Miller invites the best Class AA teams around and most of them show up. Add in a few teams from out of state and it makes for some interesting matchups.

The one notable absence from the meet this season was Shady Side Academy, a Class AA power. The Indians were traveling to Florida for training and unable to attend the meet.

Miller sure hopes the girls' meet was a preview of things to come. The Indians dominated the competition, racking up 393 points to outscore South Fayette (268), Indiana (225), Blackhawk (202.50) and Hopewell (160). The girls' meet also featured Obama Academy of the City League, Ellwood City, Hampton, Central Valley and Steubenville Catholic Central and Martins Ferry from Ohio.

The Indians won this meet last year and went on to win the first WPIAL team title in program history at the WPIAL championships.
