West Allegheny lost its first two section games this season, but quickly found its footing and earned a playoff spot. The Indians have now won 11 of the final 13 games and cruise into tonight’s WPIAL Class AAA semifinal against section rival Hopewell with momentum.
In the regular season, the teams split with Hopewell winning 7-0 and West Allegheny 4-3 with both teams winning on the road. Tonight’s game will be a neutral site at the Burkett Complex. The Burkett Complex, however, is a familiar setting for both teams as Montour plays its home games there.
Westminster senior catcher Olet Stasko, a West Allegheny graduate, was a second-team selection on the Presidents' Athletic Conference 2013 All-PAC Softball team.
Stasko led the team in runs scored with 24, was second on the team with 37 hits, and had a team best .980 fielding percentage behind the plate.
California University of Pennsylvania junior third baseman Derrik Zeroski earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Second-Team accolades in baseball.
Zeroski holds a .300 average (42-for-140) with seven doubles, three triples, 21 RBI and 32 runs scored while batting primarily Nos. 1 and 2 in the lineup.
