Sam Werner features the Washington boys' track team in the wake of its WPIAL team championship:

"Last year, Washington High School came tantalizingly close to claiming its first WPIAL team track title since 2000.

The Prexies lost to Riverside, 78-72, in the championship meet to finish second.

"We set that second-place trophy out all year since the beginning of the season," coach Teresa Booker said. "We had that goal when we came here that we wanted to bring home the gold."

The Prexies earned their redemption at the WPIAL team championships last Thursday at Baldwin, taking home the Class AA boys title in absolutely dominating fashion.

"It feels great," Booker said. "Last year we came in, we thought we had it and lost by six points.""
