Alumni Update - Zarley Zalewski (Pittsburgh Pirates)

Valley High School infielder Zarley Zalewski was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 40th and final round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Zalewski led the WPIAL with eight home runs this season while batting .574 and driving in 36 runs. He was selected the Class AAA Player of the Year by the WPIAL Baseball Coaches Association.

Zalewski was one of two WPIAL players selected. Neshannock shortstop John Sansone went to the Detroit Tigers in the 39th round.

Zalewski has signed a letter of intent to play collegiately at Kent State.
