Name: Zarley Zalewski
High school: Valley
Grade: 12
Sport: Baseball
Position: Shortstop

Background info: Named after former Penguins defenseman Zarley Zalapski, this Valley star has made a gigantic impact with his offense. Heading into play on April 23, Zalewski was leading the WPIAL in hitting (.676), home runs (7) and RBIs (30). He hit a grand slam in a win against Kittanning last Thursday. A four-year starter, Zalewski has signed with Kent State. As a junior, Zalewski hit .585 with 26 RBIs. Major League teams have been in attendance to scout Zalewski in recent games.

Coach Bruce Campana said: “He’s a contact guy. He can hit. But I guess I would categorize him as a power hitter. When he hits the ball, he hits it hard. He’s not a very outspoken person, but he leads by his actions. His work ethic is second to none. The kid deserves what he gets. He works hard for it.”
