This title a lot like USC's first soccer title

Ryan Riordan's feature on the Upper St. Clair boys' soccer team in the wake of winning a state title:

"When Upper St. Clair won its first boys state soccer title in 2003, the Panthers didn't win a section or WPIAL title.

This season, USC also came up short in its quest to win a section or district title. But just like nine years ago, the Panthers held up the PIAA Class AAA trophy in Hershey.

USC's Doug Hapeman scored less than 20 minutes into Saturday's championship game against Wilson West Lawn (25-3-1) and the Panthers (22-2-1) maintained that lead the rest of the game to win its third boys state soccer title in school history

The Panthers also won the PIAA Class AAA title in 2004.

"This year reminded me a lot of 2003," said Panthers coach Uwe Schneider, who has been on the coaching staff since 2000 and been the head coach since 2002."
