Upper St. Clair to meet Delaware Valley in PIAA boys' soccer semifinal
The Upper St. Clair boys soccer team is only one win away from making its second consecutive trip to the PIAA Class AAA championship.
Delaware Valley has different plans.
Upper St. Clair (20-2-1) and Delaware Valley (18-1) meet in a semifinal game tonight at Central Mountain at 6 p.m.
Delaware Valley, the District 2 champion, is coming off a pair of 1-0 wins in the PIAA tournament. The Warriors defeated Central Bucks East in the first round and then edged Cumberland Valley this past Saturday.
The Warriors are led by senior forward Christian Henry and senior midfielder Wyatt Karch. Henry scored the lone goal against Central Bucks East, while Chris Clark netted the winner against Cumberland Valley.
Upper St. Clair avenged a loss to Canon-McMillan in the WPIAL championship by defeating the Big Macs, 3-1, in the PIAA quarterfinals. Junior midfielder Troye Kiernan scored the winning goal with roughly 11 minutes left in regulation. A round earlier, the Panthers blanked Erie McDowell, 6-0.
The winner of this game advances to play the West Lawn Wilson-La Salle winner Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Hersheypark Stadium.
Upper St. Clair lost to Conestoga, 1-0, in last year’s PIAA final.
