Alumni Update - Kevin Slowey (Columbus Clippers)

Written by John Perrotto on .

SloweyKevinLeft-hander Kevin Slowey is trying to put his once-promising career back together in the minor leagues. However, his season has been derailed by injury.

Slowey is on the disabled list with the Cleveland Indians' Class AAA Columbus farm club because of a strained back. The Upper St. Clair High School graduate is 3-3 with a 5.14 ERA in eight starts in the International League.

Slowey, 28, was traded twice in the offseason, first from the Minnesota Twins to Colorado and then by the Rockies to the Indians. The Indians are paying $1.5 million of Slowey's $2.75-million salary and the Rockies are picking up the other $1.25 million.

Slowey was a double-digit winner for three straight seasons with the Twins, going a combined 35-20 from 2008-10 after posting a 4-1 record as a rookie in 2007. However, Slowey went 0-8 in an injury-plagued in 2011 and the Twins decided to trade him.

Slowey has a 39-29 career record in the major leagues with a 4.66 ERA in 100 games, including 90 starts, in five seasons. In the minor leagues, he has gone 25-19 with one save and a 2.45 ERA in 82 games, including 74 starts, over six seasons.
