Trinity's McWreath on track for an unbeaten season

Written by Ken Wunderley on .

Trinity High School hasn't had an unbeaten wrestler since 1987. Senior Kyle McWreath would like to change that.

McWreath enters Saturday's Section 4-AAA Tournament with a 25-0 record at 215 pounds. To remain unbeaten McWreath must win section, WPIAL, and PIAA titles.

The last Trinity wrestler to complete a season unbeaten was Bob Truby, who went 35-0 in back-to-back seasons in 1986 and 1987. Dan Oliverio also went unbeaten (33-0-2) in 1980.

"Going undefeated was not one of the goals I set for my senior year," said McWreath. "My goal was to take every match one at a time and not look ahead. But now that I've got to this point of the season without losing, [going undefeated] has been something I've thought about."

McWreath is one of three Hiller wrestlers who enter the Section 4-AAA Tournament with 20 or more wins. The others are: Michael Ardeno (24-6 at 140) and Patrick Jennings (23-8 at 189).
