Trinity hockey team led by Shore and female Webber

Written by Chris Adamski on .

Ryan Shore had 26 goals in 17 games played this season having a hat trick for Trinity in a 5-2 win against Linsly (W. Va.) this past Monday night. A center, Shore averaged more than a goal and a half per game and had four power play goals and three shorthanded goals. No one else on the team had anymore than four total goals this season.

Shore has five hat tricks and nine games in which he scored at least two goals. After somewhat-remarkably playing the first 14 games of the season with only one assist, he had a season-high three assists (and a season-high six points) in an 8-3 win against Allderdice Jan. 31. He had at least one goal in all but five games this season.

"Speed is his game; he is very quick," coach Dave Mayer said of the 5-foot-9, 135-pound Shore. "He just has a lot of talent, and quickness is probably his biggest thing. He goes to the puck. It seems to follow him around. Ryan's a good kid. He's very coachable. He's a dedicated guy, too. He comes to every practice."

Shore is an alternate captain, also plays for the Pittsburgh Hornets amateur organization and was a PIHL Open Class All-star. He attends Avella High School (Open Class teams have cooperative agreements with other schools; McGuffey students are also welcome on the Trinity team).

Trinity completed its season 4-16, but it has another interesting storyline: A girl, junior Brooke Webber, plays wing on the team's top line with Shore. Webber led the team in assists (11) and was second in goals and points (15) heading into the season finale Monday. She plays for the Team Pittsburgh organization, considered the top girls hockey in the area. There frequently are female goalies in high school hockey -- and even the occasional defenseman. But forwards are rare.
